We Came As Romans - Hope

The second music video I analysed to finish off my research of the codes and conventions of metalcore music videos was 'Hope' by We Came As Romans.

By analysing these 2 music videos not only did I work out what codes and conventions there are to follow in order to make a successful music video, I also got to see different and unusual effects and tactics different bands and their producers use to personalise their music videos. This gave me lots of ideas for what I can do when creating my music video that I would have never thought of before.

Logo

  • To keep up professionalism and realism of a digipak and the entire project, I created my own record company and it’s logo to feature in the credits on my digipak.
  • I decided on a circle because it keeps the logo limited and concise – which is a good idea when trying to fit everything neatly onto a side of a digipak.
  • The name of it was chosen because it’s my nickname and it’s a fun name for a record company so it’d be easily remembered
  • The puffer fish cartoon picture; on many record company logos, such as Death Row Records, there are little images. These make the logo, not only memorable, but also unique to your record company and they bands they produce.

Ancillary Project 1 - Digipak

One of the side tasks was to make a digipak for the album that my music video song features on. As main inspiration, although I looked at a variety of digipaks across different genres, I used a 'The 1975' digipak as my main inspiration and guide.

Magazine Advertisement Research

I analysed magazine advertisements of the metalcore genre to see what successful advertisements looked like and what codes and conventions they followed. This will help me in creating my own magazine advertisement.

Bring Me The Horizon - 'Drown' Analysis

I began my analysis of music videos in my selected genre by choosing the 2 most popular music videos on YouTube under 'metalcore'.

I began with the music video for 'Drown' by Bring Me The Horizon and I looked at how the band actually arrange themselves in the music, as it was all shot in a studio, and how the story was told throughout the video.

Industry Research

To begin my initial research I looked into a number of different record companies, both big and small. As well as this I researched what makes music videos sucessful by analysing the 3 most viewed videos on YouTube. Then, I looked in great detail on how to make a music video from scratch, including all the legalities and issues when making a successful music video.
