Filming

I began my filming in Holton Heath, in an abandoned laboratory with 4 of my friends. I was quite unsure and nervous as I'd never directed anything before but I stuck to my extensive plan and everything worked out smoothly.

The setting inside the building was perfect for what I wanted. After looking at the We Came As Roman's 'Hope' music video in detail, I wanted something similar to the rundown barn setting they used, something outdoors, for the main 'studio shot' I was using.

The inside of the building was also perfect for my setting. The walls were covered in grafitti, yet some rooms were perfectly lit for filming in. Other rooms, and as it got later, the darkened surroundings were perfect for towards the end of my music video.

I took some battery powered fairy lights to create some interesting blurred shots - I think this technique worked really well for the intro to the song, which is where in the music video it'll be placed. By using the fairy lights early on, it also helps my music video flow better for when I use them a lot more later on in the filming process.

Test 2

The next part of a music video I made was for a remix of 'M.A.A.D City' by Kendrick Lamar. I tried to see if I could work with a fast song with a fast beat. I  think I was successful for my first attempt because my editing is quick and so the shots are short, which means that it suits the music playing over it.

Test 1

Before I attempted starting my music video I decided to practice: getting to know the software, discovering different styles of video editing.
I used songs I like and footage of my friends I already had to make a music video for an extract of the song 'Sweatpants' by Childish Gambino.

From uploading this practice video, I now know that the quality of the video is effected when uploaded through Blogger as a file. Therefore, for my final music video, I'll attempt to keep the good quality and upload it as a file, or, upload it to a different website then link it on my blog. This is because the quality of  music videos is very important in making a successful music video in the music industry.

Location Ideas

Ideal places to record my music video:

HOLTON HEATH -

Image result for holton heath abandoned
  • Abandoned buildings
  • This is an ideal place to shoot some of my music video because it's rundown and 'edgy' which fits the theme most metalcore music video locations are.
  • After visiting here in the summer and briefly recording some parts of my video, I am going to go back and shoot more.

DELPH WOODS -
Image result for delph woods dark
  • This is one of my favourite places to go for walks, camping and just relaxing and so I know it quite well. This makes it a perfect place to record parts of my music video
  • In the day: juxtaposing scenes with brightness and life
  • Towards the evening: natural dark/creepy shots
  • Plenty of trees to have towards the end of my music video to be 'worshipped' and danced round
  • Easy to get to and very accessible 24 hours a day
  • Follows the codes of a metalcore video with nature, forests and streams

ALLEYWAYS -
Image result for alley way behind poole high school
  • Alleyways are a stereotypical dark setting, in films most criminal acts, such as muggings, murders or kidnappings, occur in alleyways at night.
  • Near to where I live, there's an alleyway that, at night, is somewhat creepy
  • Towards the end of it there's a large fence with graffiti all over it - this is an ideal place to shoot some longer frames for my music video

    My Song

The song I am using to make my music video for is 'I Bring The Weather With Me' by The Amity Affliction. As this is one of my favourite bands I will enjoy making the music video and I'll find it easier to make the video because I already have ideas from the past when listening to this song.

As this is a copyrighted song owned by many different official people, I ensured I asked the band's agent for permission to use the song before I did so.
